Blurry icon text

When you look in your C:\Windows\Fonts folder, do you see one called "Small Fonts Regular"?

In some instances in the past, I actually "wrote text" pixel by pixel using the drawing tool. That's of course slow. 😄

I think we are on the right track. I have found small fonts regular in the fonts folder but if I try deleting it I see the following popup:

The properties shows:

For me this suggests that Arial.ttf is installed under the name of Small fonts regular. I dont even know if this is possible, but for sure I can't delete / uninstall this font as windows says its a protected system font.

If I go to the fonts folder directly then there is a smalle.fon which is identical to the one I have downloaded earlier so I assume that this file is OK.

I dont know whats going on, but maybe some of you have came across a similar issue earlier.

"Small fonts" is installed already. I have downloaded the zip file though, installed but no change. People in the other forums had the issue that the font was missing from their PC. The problem I have is that I have the font but it seems that its not the right one.

Another thing that I have found is that if I open the font settings and type "small" than it returns nothing. (but if I type eg. Arial then it show that).

Also could somebody check what happens with the icon text if in the icon editor the font is changed to Arial. (on win10 with Cleartype turned on)

thx

I think windows fonts are only .ttf and small font is some bitmap if memory serves. I don't have small fonts in the control panel list either. This sounds familiar. I messed with some similar thing several years ago.

So, this file should be in your c:\windows\fonts folder. (you can unpack, r-click and choose Install)
There might be some ini-file that needs editing so the system doesn't replace the font.

Finally I got it... it was a localization thing. In the control panel > region > Administrative > Language for non Unicode programs must be set to English. I'm unsure if the previous steps (eg: reinstalling small fonts, reinstalling MS office etc) have done anything. Could be a combination of everything, but if you read this topic the first time then try changing this fist.

Man... this was a hard one to figure out 😛

That's not true.

I changed non-Unicode settings to non-English 2 years ago.  I have never had problem with icon font before or after the non-Unicode change.  I always use small font for the icon.

No problem in Win7 Pro and Win 10 Pro 64 bit.

I like the way that you skip the foreplay and just go straight into "not true". Thats always a sign of a goal oriented professional!

Well, most likely not all the localizations mess up the fonts like in my case, but for mine it did. If you dont have a problem with blurred icons, good for you, nothing to be changed.

But if you have, then just try changing it to English as it solved my problem.

The icon editor doesn't work well with unicode, not for small font.  I can't use Russian or Chinese.  But no blur.
