Can a USB device like a joystick be used to control a labview program?

I am using LabView with a Vernier LabPro and Digital Control Unit. It is fairly easy in LabView to use keyboard keys to control the output lines of the Vernier Digital Control Unit. I want to know if it is possible to use a USB device like a joystick to control LabView instead of using keyboard keys. The problem is part of a full-year engineering project. The labpro and DCU are in a remote submersible - Labview is running on a surface laptop to control it. We have already contacted Vernier and they recommended contacting you. We welcome any help.

Both LabVIEW 7.0 and 7.1 have VIs to use a joystick for control. They should be able to see any joystick that Windows can see.

Look on the Functions palette on teh block diagram, then in the Advanced sub palette, that in the Input Device Control sub palette of that.

Using the Abort button to stop your VI is like using a tree to stop your car. It works, but there may be consequences.
