remove subvi from palette

Hi All,

sorry maybe it is a trivial question but I'm really getting mad about...

Looking at the attached picture, how can I remove a subvi or a subpalette from the function palette?? I mean the ones with the question mark on them..

Is there a tutorial or a guide for managing the palette??

thank you very much for the help.

Francesco

Francesco,

the icons with the questionmarks are placeholder for NI palettes. So i suggest that you do not remove them. Those icons do not appear when working with the palettes (they only appear in the edit palette tool).

hope this helps,

Norbert

Ok thank you...

but in general how to remove items from there?? and how to manage subpalettes?? sometimes it happens to me that I have many unuseful levels of subpalettes but I cannot move Vi's from one level to the other..

Francesco,

there are different ways how the palettes are handled. The most common way (which most NI palettes use) is to select  the option "Synchronize with directory". Other palettes are populated via a palette-file. The name for those files is normally dir.mnu (maybe yo've already seen some). I think this KB will help you in some general way, but a detailed tutorial is (as far as i know) not available...

Hi Norbert...

what I really don't understand is how to remove VI's from a palette.

The image shows my failure trying to manually take out from the deep palette all the VI's.

Now again, how to remove the three VI's that are next to the subpalette in the okFrontPanel level??

thanks

Francesco,

if your palette is "synch with directory" you are not able to delete single elements. If you configure your own setting within a mnu-file (this is created using the edit palette tool) without synchronizing to the directory, you can add/remove single items as you desire.

hope this helps,
Norbert

Yes, Norbert!

it does help a lot!!!

indeed the palette was locked by this sync stuff.

One last question: is there a way to move up of one level all the VI's of a subpalette together??

thanks

Francesco

Francesco,

you can design your own palette structures as you need them. But if you have selected "Link to a directory" while creating your subpalette, LV will populate subfolders as subpalettes. Therefore you have to unlock all affected palettes and move the items around (or add them as new items).

hope this helps,

Ok.. probably the best solution is then to remove everything and start again from the original .llb file.

However you solved perfectly my problem.

Thanks a lot
