Missing "Company name" in version info dialog

Solved!
Go to solution

I just installed LabWindows/CVI 2017 on a new laptop.

When I click the check box for 'Preview Substitutions' on the Version Info dialog panel, anywhere %company is comes up blank.

I have looked at C:\ProgramData\National Instruments\CVI2017\bin\userinfo.ini and the 'CompanyName' element is correctly set to my company.

Scratching my head.

Hello John,

I had the same problem in the past and Luis helped me to correct it: see this post from him and the whole discussion it pertains to for reference.

Sorry, I just realized that the folder you looked into is the exact one I was pointing you to! Sorry, I cannot hep you more that this.

Sometime those info must have been moved elsewhere: while looking into it I realized that my userinfo.ini file located in that folder holds data that are not up to date and do not correspond to those shown on CVI splash screen.

Hi

You can check the following registry key:

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\National Instruments\CVI\17.0\User Info

Maybe the company name is picked from the CompanyName registry value?

Try editing your ni.com profile and provide a company name there see if that works.

If you activate CVI with your ni.com entitlement, it is possible that Company is read from that entitlement.

Thank you, Gaus!

I tried the registry key that you indicated and the CompanyName element in the key was set correctly.

You pointed me in the right direction though.

In the registry I created the following key:

Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\National Instruments\CVI\User Info

Under this key I created the element 'CompanyName' and set this element to my company name.

This solved the problem.
