Stop button reboots the computer

I am developping an application in LabWindows/CVI. When i run it in debug mode there is a stop button avaliable in CVI. When I use this button to stop the execution of my application the computer reboots. Why? How can I fix it?

Hello Johan!

What are your computer specifications and what operating system are you using?

Did the debug functionality work before (on the application) or is this behaviour new?

Finally, could you send your project for further examination?

cheers

Hello and thank you for a fast reply!

I am using windows 2000 5-00-2195 SP4 on a HP Compaq Pentium IV 3.2 GHz with 1.5 GBs of RAM. On this computer the stop button causes rebboot approx 75% of the times it is used. I previously used another computer and never experienced this problem.

If windows is configured to show blue screen error message before shutdown, this states "STOP: 0x000000D1 DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL nibffrk.dll NI Buffer Services Kernel Library for Windows v. 1.0.3.11" or something similar.

I can't send you my project. This would violate company policy.

Best regards

Johan

Have you tried to reinstall/repair Labwindows/CVI?

Johan,

It would be great if you could have your computer create a kernel memory dump when it crashes.  You can turn this feature on in Windows by:

1.  Right click on My Computer and select Properties
2.  On the Advanced tab click the settings button under startup and recovery
3.  Select Kernel Memory Dump from the drop down menu under Write Debugging information

The MEMORY.DMP file can help us determine what the cause of the problem is.

Hello!

I now have a memory.dmp file but it is 123 MB which is not suitable for e-mail. How can I send you the file? What part of it is interesting? Can I somehow extract the vital information?

Johan,

Yes the memory.dmp file will be quite large because it is a dump of all vital information that was in RAM at the time of the crash. So if you have 128 MB of RAM or more you can end up with a large file. The best way to send the file to us is to rename it something useful like Johan_Olsson.dmp and upload it to ftp://ftp.ni.com/incoming

Also did you try Ashwani's suggestion of uninstalling and reinstalling CVI, or at the very least performing a repair install? 95% of the time crashes occur because something simply got corrupt on your system, and this is the easiest way to fix it. Once have tried that and your system is still crashing, let me know when you upload the file to the ftp site and I will take a look at it.

Hello again!

I tired to reinstal CVI but since it is already installed the installation wizard does not copy any files. I will upload my memory dump file to the ftp site under the name johan.dmp.

Looking forward to your next reply

Johan,

Go to the Windows Control panel and select Add or Remove Programs.  Then Select National Instruments Software from the list.  In the Window that pops up you should see you CVI installation on the left.  Once you select that you will have the option to perform a repair install, or uninstall.  I would recommend at least trying the repair install, or if possible uninstall and reinstall CVI.

I can take a look at the dmp file you upload, but I would still recommend you either perform a repair install or an uninstall reinstall.
