.c and .h files still open in CVI 9.0 even with CVI 2009 is installed

Solved!
Go to solution

I have had this problem for a while but have managed to live with it. Ever since I installed LabWindows/CVI 2009 my .c and .h files still open in LabWindows/CVI 9.0. .cws, .prj, .uir, and .fp files all open in 2009. I have tried remapping the files in "file types" and even fiddled with the registry to try and get the .c and .h files to open with the right version of CVI. This has been to no avail.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hey John,

You just need to set the default program for your .c and .h files to open in. If you right click on the file and select Open with>>Choose default program... Then select the Browse... button and navigate to the cvi.exe for CVI 2009. On my computer that path is C:\Program Files\National Instruments\CVI2009\cvi.exe. Make sure that the option "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" is enabled.

Thank you!

I ended up fixing it by going into the registry and changing the path for cvi.exe. It was still set to the path to the executable for CVI 9.0. That is what the file types for .c and .h files were referencing even though I selected the executable in CVI 2009.

It looks like the path was never changed when I installed CVI 2009.
