Difference between cDAQ-9174 and cDAQ-9178

Solved!
Go to solution

I have multiple cRIO-9081.  Each cRIO-9081 is running NI-DAQmx 15.5.  On four of the cRIO-9018 we have attached cDAQ-9178s with 8 modules.  Everything just worked.  On the fifth cRIO-9018 we attempted to connect a cDAQ-9174.  The device showed up in MAX and Windows Device Manager, but MAX reported that the device was not present (Error -88705) and that Windows did not find a driver for the instrument.

We then plugged in a cDAQ-9178 into the fifth cRIO and everything just worked.

What is the difference between a cDAQ-9174 and a cDAQ-9178 other than the number of module supported?

Hi Paul,

In terms of specifications, the two cDAQ chassis should have almost exactly the same specs (at least in all the ways that would affect that connection) -- the only main difference is the number of modules, as you mentioned. More detail on the specs can be found here:

It looks like something may be wrong with your 9174 -- is it working when connected to another system? These are also some great troubleshooting steps to start with: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/34CC88F4838CD37E86256A290066A2BE

Hi Paul,

This seems like it may be a driver issue! What version of DAQmx do you have installed on both computers? A reinstall of the newest version might be worth a shot since it looks like there may be some corruption. You can find the newest version here: http://www.ni.com/download/ni-daqmx-15.5/5901/en/

You can also manually associate the driver with the device, here: http://digital.ni.com/public.nsf/allkb/5B80CAAA64413B4C86256C5E0000C1A7

Are there any modules plugged into the cDAQ chassis?

Also, sometimes this can happen if you do not reboot your computer after installing NI-DAQmx. Rebooting your computer after installing the driver will allow you to reserve the device successfully. Here are a few other steps to try:

  • Check the NI Device Loader to see if it is running
  • Reset the NI Device Loader service
  • Reset MAX Configuration Database
  • Power cycle the system

Sunayna,

Reloading NI-DAQmx 15.5 and resetting MAX configuration database fixed the issue.
