Installing DAQmx in LabVIEW 8.5

Solved!
Go to solution

I have a very old LabVIEW 8.5 IDE installation into which I attempted to install DAQmx using the "NI Package Manager". The indications are it did install something (no errors) but the DAQmx palate is not there in that IDE. Also, nothing was installed in the directory  C:\Program Files (x86)\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.5\vi.lib\DAQmx.

NI MAX shows three DAQmx drivers insalled, and all had "2024" in their names. I thought that since "NI Package Manager" would have known what version of DAQmx to install, but this appears not to be the case.

How can I get the correct version of DAQmx installed in this very dated LabVIEW 8.5 installation, so that the DAQmx palate will appear in the LabVIEW 8.5 IDE?

No, the latest DAQmx is not compatible with LV 8.5. Please check the following link for compatibility.

https://www.ni.com/en/support/documentation/compatibility/16/ni-daqmx-and-labview-compatibility.html

For LV8.5, DAQmx 8.6.1 to 9.3 is supported.

Thank you for your reply. Now I need to know how to install an earlier version of DAQmx into the LabVIEW 8.5 IDE. On this page I see options for earlier versions:

https://www.ni.com/en/support/downloads/drivers/download.ni-daq-mx.html#521556

Would an installer from there include installing the DAQmx VI palate into LabVIEW 8.5? If not how is this done?

Yes, select the supported versions and download.

Thank you. Your information was a big help. I now have the DAQmx palette in the IDE. But now the USB 6008 fails self test. I suspect the problem may be related to other packages for which incompatible versions have been installed. These are:

https://www.ni.com/en/support/downloads/drivers/download.ni-visa.html#521671

https://www.ni.com/en/support/downloads/drivers/download.ivi-compliance-package.html#521540

I would appreciate a link to compatibility charts for these similar to what you have provided for DAQmx.

The details of the self test failure are in this other thread of mine:

I have DAQmx working now. Your chart shows the latest DAQmx version that should work in LabVIEW 8.5 is 9.3. But 9.3 did not work. Version 9.0 did.
