PXI-5610 TempCo Calibration in Cal Exec 3.2

Hello,

I am trying to adjust a PXI-5610 that is failing calibration in CalExec 3.2.  The problem that I am having is that I keep recieving an error after about an hour (or so) into the TempCo adjustment.  I will attach a Word document with the error message.  It tells me that the PXI-5610 is not heating up as quickly as it was designed to heat up.  I have set the chassis fan to auto to enable the unit to heat up quicker.  It did get further (to about 43 degrees Celcius with some change).  The only thing that I have not done, and did not want to do without getting some expert advice, is block that chassis air vents.  I am not sure if doing so would be an acceptable method to obtain the desired temperature or if the unit just has a bad TempCo component somewhere.

I have an eight slot PXI chassis.  In the chassis, I have a MXI card, PXI-5610, PXI-5421, and a PXI-5620.

Any advice on how to obtain the desired TempCo temperatures or possible instrument fault would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your assistance and time,

Dustin

Hello Dustin,

The Temperature Calibration is thermally compensating for the changes in gain through hardware temperature change.  The compensated gain of the 5610 drifts at a rate approximately 0.05dB per degrees Celsius.

Make sure that everything is running for at least 30 minutes before starting the Calibration Executive Procedure.  After the verification stage, make sure that the 5610 is cooled to 23 +/- 5 °C.  Cooling the 5610 might take about an hour.

Hi Bench_Tech.

In our lab, we tried several different attempts at this same adjustment. In the end, the only successful way to get through the Temp Comp adjustment was to modify the PXI chassis. We installed a switch on the outside of the chassis to completely shutdown the fans. You will see the power switch turn from green to red indicated no fan movement. After the temp reaches the necessary 55-56°C and begins the next adjustment section be sure to turn the fans on and let the adjustment process finish.

Good Luck

Hi... trying to solve a problem (similar to this) and need help...

Trying to calibrate (and adjust) a PXI-5610 using Cal-Exec (ver. 5.2).

During the adjustment phase, after about 20 minutes the PXI-5610 adjustment stops and Cal-Exec produces the following message:

Adjust_NI 5610_TempCo_Main.vi

Complete call chain:
Adjust_NI 5610_TempCo_Main.vi
Adjust_NI 5610_Adjusting Temperature Correction Coefficient.vi
Calibration Executive: NI 5610 Procedure: The NI 5610 TempCo calibration is out of allowable bounds.

I have tryed slowing the warm-up (added fan) and message (above) displayed when device was at about 46 deg C. I speed-up the warming up process (close mainframe air intake, applied heat to the pxi-5610), device temp got to 55.5 deg C (in about 16 minutes) and the Cal-Exec displayed the above message (again).

Is there anything else I should be doing?
