Hello Terry

The 5840 requires an FPGA extension to take into use the FPGA.
Before moving forward on the hows etc, can you describe what you would like to achieve, what's your application ?

If you do not need the FPGA, then you can directly use niRFSA/G.

Regards

The end user has a low latency radar application and would like to see how it can be programmed much like one would program a FlexRIO or other NI FPGA targets.

How can they get the FPGA extension?

Hello Terry

The best way to get the FPGA extension is to go through your NI sales representative.

From there we will guide and help you to get going.

Regarding the latency, how low this one needs to be, is it for some Automotive Radar application ?

Cheers

Will the VST drivers for LabVIEW 2016 and the 5840 be published online?

Something similar to the way the drivers for LabVIEW 2015 and the first generation VST (5644...) are posted here: http://www.ni.com/download/ni-pxie-5644r5645r5646r-instrument-design-libraries-15.0/5578/en/

Hello Terry

The only ways to program the VST2 aka 5840 are:

-RFSA/G 16 drivers, same host programming as standard VSA/VSGs

-RFSA/G 16 drivers and FPGA Extensions, same host programming as VSA/VSGs + custom FPGA access to IPs built aside the Reference FPGA design (which preserve the compatibilty with RFSA/G calls)

There is no IDLs (Instrument Drivers Libraries) like the ones used for VST1 564x.

So please, contact your Sales Representative so that we can help you getting started with the FPGA extensions on 5840.

Regards!

Hello Victor.F,

I am developing Radar Target Simulator on VST 5840 and need to change FPGA image and recompile with my IP. I have got developers guide to FPGA extension's and went through it and created example code and compiled. After running it I am getting instruction frame work error. I didn't understand what need to do further. Please help me in this regard.

Error screenshot is attached.

Thanks,
