If this doesn't already happen today, I would guess this should be a bug report rather than a feature request (i.e. "I can't use the selector as one of the options for a linked tunnel").
Nope, not a bug. Just a feature that isn't implemented.

Then you should actually vote for it. The number of votes is one of the mechanisms which NI uses to determine which features to implement.
