Property dialog box for numeric control's and indicator's - Display Format need no scroll-box, There is plenty of room

Status: Completed

Implemented in LabVIEW 2014

Properties of a numeric control or indicator is using a scroll box to set the Type (see dump below). A closer look reveals that this dialog is poorly laid out - there is plenty of room to display all the contained information without having to resort to a scoll box. This issue appears to be specific to LV2012. In LV2011sp1 it is nicely done.

This is a very simple and low risk thing to correct and improves usability at virtually no cost. It may appear as an insignificant thing, but a top notch tool like LabVIEW should take care of all such small details.

Here is a dump of before and after the improvements...

Something looks odd about your font.  What font are you using as part of your basic Windows setup?

When I look at that same dialog box, all of the lines fit within the list and the scrollbar is not needed.  Your font is either not standard or larger than the typical Windows font.

Win7 aveo Smiley Sad changes font sizes from what we previously saw.  The same thing is seen on the Mechanical Action settings for booleans.

There is not as much space there (or may not be) as you may thinkSmiley Wink a lot of scripting goes into those tabs based on the object type.  I believe there is a CAR to look at the property editor and clean up what aveo did to itSmiley Happy

I can confirm Jeff's remark that the problem is related to the Font size. In win7 font is 15pt and xp it is 13pt. This apparently makes the difference in the height required in this scroll box.  I never changed any of those settings and I have verified on several machines.

But still I don't see why this should be due to scripting - the fact is there is plenty of room on the dialog to expand the scroll box as shown in the screen dump. If it is scripting, then there is optimization to do on that script.

May I draw the attention to a similar issue with dialog's containing scroll boxes reported as an idea previously: http://forums.ni.com/t5/LabVIEW-Idea-Exchange/Always-enable-resize-of-dialog-boxes-containing-scroll...

Heel,

See the post by Darrin here where CAR 352782 was generated.  The property editor is rumoured to be more populated than we lowly minions can see.
