pop up comment on Block Digram

Status: New

Hi,

Often you see in code one large text box for comments and labels on each section of code for which the comment applies.

How about a small speach bubble type icon which can be placed on the block diagram, which when clicked/hovered on will pop up comments either in its own window or in the context help window.  This could be linked into the new requirements tracking tools as well.

This is not dissimilar to this idea.

i'm completly with you, but would prefer an autocomment implemented via a doubleslash (like c-comments):

lets suggest the actual state...

the new solution could look like this:

1) start a comment with a doubleslash

2.png

2) when finished, labview indicates such a comment with a special symbol within the blockdiagram

 3.png

4) whenever the user hovers over this symbol he gets the complete text

additionally, i would suggest to offer an option "display doubleslashed comments as hover-symbol" in the blockdiagram section (and maybe also a regulator for the opaque-value).

by the way: since it's only a way of interpreting, the blockdiagram-code does not differ from former labview-versions.

Nice problem addressed, but I have some issues about ohmmega's solution:

1) I don't think that is necessary to add a new element to LabVIEW that looks like another active item.

2) LabVIEW already has the Context Help, why not use it for the additional information?

3) The creation mode is a bit strange. How you think we can edit the information?

Agree with craigc's idea of adding Context Help, but to the existing Free Labels. Not need to create a new entity.

I agree with you in terms of looking like an active item but I think it is something you could get used to.

Alternatively having a native system that simply keeps track of comment numbers and then allows you to insert new comments.  That is the biggest flaw in the current system, if you have 9 or 10 comments and want to add another at the beginning it can be a real pain to change them all, but having them out of order can be confusing.

Very similar to this suggestion:
