Case Selector Label ability to show String Display Formats

Status: New

It was recently brought to my attention that some people may not be aware that you can show the radix for a numeric in a case selector label:

Well, I propose that since the Indicate Display Format of Strings is now In Beta, I would like to see a similar option to choose the display format of strings for the case selector label. Here are two examples that would really benefit from such a feature:

I should remind you that under the beta agreement, you are not allowed to discuss what is in the beta in public forums.

I don't think Jack is violating the agreement for the beta version of LabVIEW.  The fact that the idea is in Beta is something that is already publicly announced in the Idea Thread that Jack linked to.  I'm not even so sure that having an idea "In Beta" means the same thing as it is right now in the beta released version of LV2010.

I had actually raised that issue with the beta coordinator. This was something that was overlooked by the beta team. My understanding, based on his response, was that there should not have been indications in the Idea Exchange about whether an idea was in the beta. We lowly peons, however, were still subject to the beta agreement, regardless of what NI did.

You are correct, though, with respect to this specific issue - I had not followed the link to see that the idea itself was marked in the Idea Exchange as "In Beta", and assumed that Jack was saying it was in the beta simply by having seen it himself.

If smercurio_fc is right, all threads in beta should disapear until the final version come out!

I propsed this Idea regardless of any knowledge I have or don't have about what's going on with the Beta.... I'm just assuming it was accepted for implementation based on the "In Beta" status tag on the right column of any webpage on the Idea Exchange. It must be one of those "reeeeeeeaaally good" Ideas AQ referred to yesterday on the webcast, and I'm guessing they're excited enough about the Idea to squeeze it into the 2010 project schedule. Hi Smercurio,

I guess it is ultimately NI's call on how much info they want to release.  So if they want to allow the Idea exchange to say it is in Beta, that's there call.  If not, they could possibly leave it saying it's in development.  It is nice to see a change in status as it shows they like the ideas and are working on them.

Manzolli,

I think the thread should remain on the board even if it is in Beta.  It shouldn't disappear.  Sometimes there is still activity on the thread and it might be a message that the developers would look at and say "yes, let's consider that as well".  When the next version of LV comes out incorporating the idea, the idea would get moved to completed.  I don't think we really want threads to disappear as there often other threads that link to it.  And if it is such a good idea, someone else will think of it and propose it again because they aren't able to find it already proposed.  Which happens now even when the thread exists, it can be hard to find.
